International Women’s Day- Top 20 Kick-Ass Heroines in YA

    March 8, 2018 / No Comments

Hey, everyone. As you may or may not know, today is International Women’s Day. To celebrate, I thought I would post up my list of favourite YA heroines, all of whom are incredibly intelligent, strong, independent and awesome. They’re not in any particular order, and they’re a mix of fantasy/sci-fi/historical and contemporary. Please note, there’s going to be a few spoilers ahead, so if you see a book you haven’t read yet and want to, I’d suggest skipping ahead unless you don’t mind the spoilers 😀 Audrey from It Only Happens in the Movies by Holly Bourne This is a contemporary book that I instantly fell in love with. It’s a story…

    Shadowblack Short Book Review

    March 8, 2018 / No Comments

Shadowblack by Sebastien de Castell From Goodreads: It’s a few months since Kellen left his people behind. Now aged sixteen, Kellen is an outlaw, relying on his wits to keep him alive in the land of the Seven Sands. He misses home, he misses family and more than anything, he misses Nephenia, the girl he left behind. Then he meets Seneira, a blindfolded girl who isn’t blind, and who carries a secret that’s all too familiar to Kellen. Kellen and Ferius resolve to help – but the stakes are far higher than they realise. A Shadowblack plague is taking hold – and Kellen can’t help but suspect his own people may…

Hi, and welcome in! I’m Kelly (she/her) a thirty-year old book blogger with a doctorate in YA Studies, and self-confessed caffeine fiend. When I’m not at work or reading, you can usually find me with the biggest coffee to hand, playing video or board games. I live with my boyfriend Alex and our beautiful ragdoll kittens, Ahri, Galio, and Zed, in Nottingham. From an early age, I’ve loved reading, especially fantasy novels, and Coffeestarsbooks is the space I grew to share my enthusiasm with others.

― Nikita Gill, Hekate

Hey friends and fellow readers, it's very almost the weekend. I am so ready to curl up in bed with my Steamdeck and books (and maybe a warm coffee too) and basically just hibernate until Christmas. Sadly, I'm not sure that's a real option.

.
💭 Do you ever read mythology or poetry?

I picked up Hekate after playing some Hades 2 (I haven't finished yet so no spoilers please!) and loved it, but I didn't realise until I opened the book that it was poetry. It was an interesting read though, even if it's not what I usually gravitate towards. I posted my full review on my blog! (www.coffeestarsbooks.com)

Hey friends and fellow bookworms! It's been a long long Tuesday and right now I'm dreaming of just curling up with a good book. But I did have a productive day yesterday, scheduling book blog posts for the next couple of weeks. It's been nice to ease back into that, and I have a few exciting projects to reveal soon! And tomorrow, I might possibly be getting a Kindle. There was a huge mess with Amazon today, but it looks as though I might still receive a Kindle tomorrow...maybe.

Hi, wonderful bookish people!

How are we already almost at the edge of November. Time has really flown this year. I'm very very behind on my reading goals, but I've got so many amazing books to read and a lot of great games to play too, so I feel a bit like a cosy little woodland animal hoarding all the treats ready to hibernate haha.

This was one of my more anticipated reads for this end of the year and a warm hug of a book, perfect for this slide into the chilly winter days. What is everyone else reading at the moment?

Hi friends! I haven't posted much this year (or r Hi friends!

I haven't posted much this year (or read that much for that matter!) but I saw this prompt floating around and thought it would be a good way to challenge myself for the last few months of the year. Except I picked out 11 books, because I have a lot on my tbr! I'm nit actually sure where to start either, because there's so many books I'm excited to read on this list. If anyone has any suggestions, I am easily swayed!

Hey friends, Just started Arcana Academy yesterda Hey friends,

Just started Arcana Academy yesterday. The worldbuilding is very intriguing and I love a good bit of enemies to lovers too. This book seems to be so hyped at the moment, so I'm hoping it's a good read! This gorgeous waterstones edition came signed with these beautiful endpages, I obviously couldn't resist!

Hey friends, Good evening! Hope you've had a fant Hey friends,

Good evening! Hope you've had a fantastic day. I'm slowly but surely reorganising bookshelves, and while I know it isn't the best way to find my books on the shelf, I have to appreciate the sprayed and stencilled edges on my special editions! And in unrelated news, I also finished drafting my first chapter of my novel today, so of course I took myself out for cake and an iced coffee.
