Unboxings

September Book Box Club: Outlaws

September Book Box Club

So this particular Book Box Club box was very exciting, because it happened to be the first anniversary of the club 😀 How awesome is that? The box featured a really cute letter from Libby and Kate, and a specially made birthday shortbread cookie to say thanks, and I thought this was a brilliant touch. I definitely did not cry at all during this unboxing. Nope. I have pollen allergies haha.

Anyhow, emotions aside, I really did love this box. I’ve just moved into uni accommodation again, so I thought it was really nice of the girls to delay my box for a week so I could make sure to be there for delivery [Fairyloot did the same this month.] I had seen this particular book, A Jigsaw of Fire and Stars by Yaba Badoe, in bookstores before, but I was pleasantly surprised to get this in the box. [Update: I read the book, and I wasn’t all that keen on it. But still. That happens.] This time, the book came signed, no bookplates in sight, which was a thoughtful touch. There was the usual Q and A and invite to the club meeting though. Also, can we just take a moment to appreciate how stunning this cover is? It’s glorious and I actually sat staring at it for a good five minutes in some kind of book-fuelled trance.

The first item I saw in this box was the exclusive Sante socks by Book Box Club themselves. They’re very blue and orange and I love wearing them. They’re just so cosy. Next up, I found the shortbread cookie made by Nila Holden [it did not last long.] It had ‘make a wish’ written on it, which made me smile. I miiiiiiight have wished for more cookies, because damn that was tasty. After that, I discovered the second book in this box. That’s right, this month there were TWO books. The second one was Witchborn by Nicholas Bowling. Unfortunately, I haven’t actually gotten round to reading it before the release date, but I WILL get to it at some point in the not so distant future [she says, hysterically]. The cover was a little odd on this ARC. It is a paperback, but it came with a sort of hardback style cover with flaps. I wasn’t quite sure what to do with this, so I kinda blu-tacked it in place, but the cover is seriously pretty and I love all the autumnal colours worked into it. Also the premise sounds right up my street, so I’m looking forward to finally getting round to it.

Moving on, I found the Inej lipbalm by Oriandle. My God, this tastes divine. It’s like caramel and cinammon and I love wearing it. Also, the flavours are really well matched to the character of Inej, and I’m so happy to have received this in my box.

Next, I came across the Robin Hood magnetic bookmark by Marked by Hephaestus. I actually live in Nottingham, so this made me chuckle quite a bit, and I’ve been using this bookmark a lot because it’s just so dang useful. Also, it’s really sweet and cute and I have a new love for these kinds of bookmarks. I want MORE.

Last but by no means least, we have my favourite item in the Outlaws box: the Marauders postcards by The Imaginative Illustrator. I fell in love with these immediately, and I gave the extras [there were two of each card] to a fellow HP obsessed friend. Who also loved them. Because honestly, these cards are just the BEST. The Marauders are my most wished for HP prequel [if you’re reading this JKR you know you want to. Please? Pretty please?] and I was so chuffed to see their likeness on these cards. The Sirius Black one is beautiful, but I love the quote one: ‘I Solemnly Swear That I am Up to No Good’ and the one of the four of them [although, let’s be honest, I tend to just pretend Wormtail isn’t in them.]

So yeah, that wraps up my September Book Box Club unboxing. Stay tuned for the October Quests and Legends one 😀
