July Haul and Wrap Up
Hey everyone, how’s it going?
First up, I want to apologise for the lack of reviews and articles recently. Everything has been very hectic around here lately, and my partner has been ill, so I haven’t had too much time to read or post reviews. However, I was just at YALC this weekend and I will be posting a second haul soon full of all the books and swag that I picked up. There’ll also be a video going up on Youtube later today of the weekend in all its bookish wonderfulness.
Anyhow, on to the haul, which as you can expect, was pretty huge this month.
Books I Bought:
- Zenith by Sasha Alsberg and Lindsay Cummings. I had a Waterstones gift card and decided to buy this book for YALC.
- Bright We Burn by Kiersten White. I’ve been planning to grab a copy of this for ages, and I was so pleased to have a voucher to buy it.
- Spark by Alice Broadway. This one was in the Buy One Get One Half Price offer. I wasn’t too keen on book one, but I was willing to give it a second go.
- Save the Date by Morgan Matsen. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this author, so this was a perfect chance to try reading something cute and sweet.
- American Panda by Gloria Chao. Again, I’ve heard really great things about this book and I’m delighted to try it later this month.
- All These Beautiful Strangers by Elizabeth Klehfoth. I read this on Netgalley in July and enjoyed it a lot, but since Klehfoth was one of the YALC authors, I thought I would buy a copy to get signed.
- How Do You Like Me Now? by Holly Bourne. I read a sample of this a while back and loved it, and figured I should grab a copy for YALC.
- The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. I forgot to include this in the pic, but this was a signed copy of the movie tie-in edition I picked up at YALC.
- The Extinction Trials by S.M. Wilson. Another signed copy I picked up from the Usborne stand over the weekend.
- The Extinction Trials: Exile by S.M. Wilson. I wasn’t planning on buying this, but the Usborne stand deal was one book for eight pounds, or two for ten, and this one was also signed sooooo…
- The Island by M.A. Bennett. Bennett was one of the authors announced to sign on the Hot Key Books stand this weekend, and since I enjoyed stags, I figured I’d pick up a copy of her new book.
- To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo. I loved loved LOVED this book when I got a copy on Netgalley and I was so excited to find Christo would be doing a signing at YALC on the Hot Key Books stand, so I finally bought a copy of TKAK.
- Lifelik3 by Jay Kristoff. I wasn’t planning on buying this anytime soon, but it was on one of the stands and it was cheaper than picking it up at Waterstones, so I took advantage of the offer.
Books From Friends:
- Are We All Lemmings and Snowflakes? by Holly Bourne. Technically, I went and bought this one, but my awesome friend Moon gave me her book stamp card from Waterstones to buy the book with, so it really is more like a gift.
- The Surface Breaks by Louise O’Neill. This one was gifted to me by Lis [I think] who wasn’t keen on the book and gave me her signed copy.
- Onyx and Ivory by Mindy Arnett. This was the signed copy with stained edges from Fairyloot, I believe. Moon also gave me this one when I saw her on Friday.
Books from Publishers/Authors and Freebies/Swaps:
- The Path Keeper by N.J. Simmonds. I did an author interview with Natali over the weekend and she kindly gave me a very early edition of TPK. The book went out of print a while back, but it is being released again next year, so I was given one of the old versions to read and review by her. She even signed it for me 😀
- Reign of the Fallen by Sarah Glenn Marsh. This was in the book swap stand at Hot Key Books.
- Killing It by Asia MacKay. This finished copy was sent to me by the wonderful team at Bonnier Zaffre.
- Class of Penguin 2018/2019 by various authors. This is a very gorgeous sample selection of some awesome new and upcoming releases Penguin will be bringing out in the coming months.
E-Book ARCS:
- The Goodbye Girls by Lisa Harrington.
- Bridge of Clay by Markus Zusak
- Tempests and Slaughter by Tamora Pierce
- My [Secret] Youtube Life by Charlotte Seager
- Floored by various YA authors
- The Miseducation of Cameron Post by Emily Danforth
Overall, I received/purchased 20 physical books this month and 6 e-books.
July Wrap-Up:
I read 11 books this month. Some of them I haven’t put reviews up for because they’re part of the Summer read-a-thon I’m doing, but I’ve had quite a stressful month and wanted some contemporary breezy reads to help me feel a little better, so I read ahead a little. I’ll post up reviews for each book nearer the time.
- Sweet Black Waves by Kristina Perez
- A Sky Painted Gold by Laura Wood
- Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik
- Drama-Con by Svetlana Chmakova
- The Miseducation of Ccameron Post by Emily Danforth
- Floored by various YA authors
- Zenith by Sasha Alsberg and Lindsay Cummings
- Grace and Fury by Tracy Banghart
- Save the Date by Morgan Matsen
- How Do You Like Me Now? by Holly Bourne
- The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
And that’s it really folks. What did everyone read and haul in July? Anything you recommend? Let me know in the comment section, and I hope you’re all having a fabulous weekend.

That is a ton of books! I loved Meant To Be Broken (teen romance) by Brandy Woods Snow. I just finished Artist, Soldier, Lover, Muse, which was soooo good for historical art fiction.
