Posts About Writing?

ash background

Okay guys, so this is more of a question/poll than an actual post.

I’ve recently gotten back into writing and querying, as well as doing some buddy writing and other things. A while ago, I uploaded some writing advice posts. At the time I felt like I had said about all I was comfortable saying about writing, especially given that I’m not an expert and I don’t work in the industry. Part of this reservation also stemmed from the fact that, when I started my blog, I was done drafting and editing The Heir of Ink and Magic and had already been through a few rounds of querying.

However, I’m now embarking on a new WIP and this gives me a new opportunity here. I was considering posting updates on the blog [alongside all the usual bookish stuff like reviews and things] and giving bits of advice or talking through my process/things I was getting stuck on along the way. For obvious reasons, I don’t want to share too much about the project, not while I’m considering representation, but I think it might help both me and potentially other writers to simply talk about some of the things I encounter as I am writing. Sort of like a daily journal kind of thing.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I’m always a bit hesitant to claim any kind of authority when it comes to writing, simply because I am not in any way an authority figure. I’m [as of yet] not a published author, or an agent, editor or publisher. I might not have much to say about the subject. However, I was wondering if any of you writers out there might appreciate walking alongside me on this project and getting to experience some of the things I encounter when writing this book?

Let me know what you think in the comment section guys. If a few of you are interested, I will put up posts maybe once or twice a week alongside the book reviews and articles if I have enough to write about.

lovekelly

    Yes, do it. 🙂

Imho if people are voluntarily reading your stuff, you’re allowed to talk about writing. But nobody is allowed to say ‘only the way I do it works’.

Thanks, Alex 😀 yeah, I definitely think it needs to be talked about in a non-preachy way. Everyone is different. Part of the reason I want to do it is that I can’t actually remember the whole process of writing the last book. I can’t remember much of what did work for me last time round, so I’m hoping doing posts and videos as I go will make it easier next time too 😀 and it might help others figure out what works for them

Haha thanks, Oran. I’ll see what I can come up with and try and include some new posts and things in the next few days. I’ve really enjoyed watching the old videos from V.E. Schwab on youtube and thought it would be a good way to tackle nerves/actually talk about something enjoyable haha
