June 2021: My Boyfriend Picks My TBR

Hi everyone, It’s now a week into June, which means it is time to start talking about my June TBR! I’m a bit of a mood reader to be honest, so having a TBR is always a bit of a daunting task, so this month I decided to make a bit of a game of it, and made my boyfriend pick a bunch of books to add to my TBR. He’s not a YA reader, so he doesn’t really know much about the books on my shelves, and so he picked a lot of the books based purely off how they looked. I’m thinking this might be a good tactic…

    Pairing Books and Board Games

Hi everyone, So recently Bloomsbury made an announcement that they’ve created a card game based off Sarah J. Maas’ Throne of Glass series. The game will be called Embers of Memory and although you can preorder it now, it won’t be coming out til around October time. In the interim, I decided it was high time I made a post to try and pair some of my favourite YA books with some of my favourite board games. If you didn’t know already, I have recently gotten into board games since moving into my new apartment. We currently have around 20 of them on our shelves and there are plans to add more…

    Top Ten: Autumn Reads

Hey everyone, So seeing as we’re now part-way through October, I thought I would share with you my top recommended books for Autumn. I always love this time of year for so many reasons– my uni campus looks stunning, the leaves on the ground, cups of pumpkin spice coffee, Halloween around the corner, bonfire smells and of course, the excuse to snuggle up on the sofa in warm blankets and jumpers with a really good book. Most of these recommendations are YA, since that’s what I mostly read, but there’s a few which are non-YA that I enjoy reading so much at this time of year that I couldn’t resist…

Released: April 10th I know, I know, the first book, Carve the Mark had some serious and problematic issues [if you want the full story you…

    Books and Series I DNF’d

It’s unfortunate, but every now and then a book or series comes along that you’re either just not in the mood to read, or you really can’t bring yourself to finish. I hate it when that happens, and my list of DNF’d [Did Not Finished] is mercifully short, but there’s always a few. So here are mine. As ever, please don’t take offence at any of my opinions about these books. I know some of them are beloved in the YA community, and it’s always a bit of a shame when you hear someone hasn’t enjoyed a book you adore, but they’re my own opinions so please be kind!  …

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black From Goodreads: Of course I want to be like them. They’re beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially…
