Now that we’re a few days into June, I wanted to share what I’m hoping to read this month! It’s always hard sticking to these kinds of lists as a certified mood reader, but I have gotten a bit better over recent years with reading books almost as soon as I’ve bought them, so I’m hoping any planned purchases will just wind up in this list too.
This month I’ve tried not to be too ambitious- I’ve got a lot going on in my personal life, from my parents visiting for a weekend to my ADHD assessment finally taking place after many long months of waiting, and of course the Switch 2 is coming out today, so by the time you’re reading this, I’ve probably already lost a few times to my bf at Mario Kart.
Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil
London, 1837.
Boston, 2019.
The Lamb
TW for cannibalism and child abuse:
This one sounds super dark and very messed up, but something about it also sounds intriguing in a really awful way, sort of like getting to hear how Bubba from Texas Chainsaw wound up down his path. I have been on a huge “angry women in horror” trip recently, from Bloom to Hungerstone and this feels like a good continuation of this trend in tastes. I picked it up at Waterstones on Monday to get my last stamp for the £10 voucher, so we’ll see how it goes!
The Knight and the Moth
Okay, this one is simply due to the hype around this romantasy book, but in fairness I’ve also seen people give it pretty good reviews who I know and trust with their tastes. I’m definitely on the hunt for a romantasy that portrays a healthy romance, and for one that I don’t predict all the beats to, so we’ll see how this holds up. I also bought this on Monday!
Mistress of Lies
A gorgeous Illumicrate edition that just begs to be read! I remember being quite hyped for this book when it came out, but I sort of lost the excitement for it by the time my box arrived. Hopefully this time I’ll get around to it!
The Raven Scholar
I haven’t actually bought this one yet, but I’ve seen some of my closest friends give it a 5 star rating, and that has definitely intrigued me! It sounds like a lot of elements of fantasy books that I love, including a deadly contest, so I think this one will be something I aim to pick up later in the month to enjoy!
Serpent and Dove
So this would actually be a re-read. I really liked the first book when I got it in a Fairyloot box a few years ago. However, for some reason I just couldn’t get into book 2 and soft DNF’d it to try again another day. A friend gifted me the third in the series, and I know there’s now a sort of spin-off book with The Scarlet Veil (which I always get confused with The Crimson Moth because they both have a shade of red in the title). Something about having all the books in the original trilogy to hand, and the potential to buy the spin-off if I still like them, makes me feel ready to try again, although I’ve forgotten enough of the plot that I want to re-read the first book to start with!
Well, there you go. That’s my list of hopefuls for June. Let me know what’s on your tbr this month in the comment section down below, or reach out to me through my socials <3 As always, and until next time, happy reading!
