Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo
When is it released: October 1st
What is it about?: Galaxy “Alex” Stern is the most unlikely member of Yale’s freshman class. Raised in the Los Angeles hinterlands by a hippie mom, Alex dropped out of school early and into a world of shady drug dealer boyfriends, dead-end jobs, and much, much worse. By age twenty, in fact, she is the sole survivor of a horrific, unsolved multiple homicide. Some might say she’s thrown her life away. But at her hospital bed, Alex is offered a second chance: to attend one of the world’s most elite universities on a full ride. What’s the catch, and why her?
Still searching for answers to this herself, Alex arrives in New Haven tasked by her mysterious benefactors with monitoring the activities of Yale’s secret societies. These eight windowless “tombs” are well-known to be haunts of the future rich and powerful, from high-ranking politicos to Wall Street and Hollywood’s biggest players. But their occult activities are revealed to be more sinister and more extraordinary than any paranoid imagination might conceive.
Why am I waiting for it: Do I have to say anything except that it’s written by Leigh Bardugo? No, I thought not. It’s her first adult fantasy novel, so I’m super excited and it sounds amazing. Plus, I’ve just gotten back from the hype of Bookcon, and there’s nothing like missing out on an ARC of an upcoming hyped release to make you want it more (I was two people away, for the record). Also, this release is a little unusual for me because I’m a little nervous for it. I’m actually currently working on a novel of my own, a YA fantasy novel about a girl at a university who can see ghosts and there are secret societies, and I have heard that Alex can also see ghosts. So um, I’m not sure what to think except hope that my WIP is nothing like Leigh’s upcoming release :’D still, I’ll enjoy reading it, especially if I can see the differences between my own novel and hers.

I’m not a big fan of Leigh Bardugo.. Her style just doesn’t click for me

I think that’s fair. I’m curious to see if her writing style changes at all if she’s shifting to writing for an adult audience. Thanks for reading!
