The Fictional Family Book Tag
Hi everyone,
Today, I thought I’d bring to you my first blog book tag. I was tagged for this by Kay Wisteria from Hammock of Books [and if you haven’t checked out her wonderful YA blog you should totally do that now] to do this Fictional Family Book Tag. It seemed like such a brilliant and creative tag that I just couldn’t resist the lure!
THE RULES
- Pick 8 books off your shelves (try to not pick just your favorites!)
- Arrange them into a random order (randomizers are good for this).
- In the order they are arranged, open them to a random page and write down the first name you see. Don’t mix up the names!
- In the last book, find the name of an animal\pet and write it down.
- Put the names in the right category.
- Tag people (spread the love) copy and paste these rules in your post, or write them out yourself.
Parent One: Amarantha from A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas
Verdict: God no. Why oh why did she have to be the first mention in this book? I don’t know what kind of person I would turn into if I had Amarantha for a mother, but I can guarantee it wouldn’t be pleasant. She tortures people for fun, and she rules over the Fae with a heartless ferocity. I would probably spend all of my time hiding in my room and sneaking down to the fridge for snacks at night when she wasn’t around. On the plus side, everyone would be so terrified of her that nobody would ever dare to be mean to me. Worst selection EVER.
Parent Two: Rhy from A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab
Verdict: Um YES! Rhy would make a brilliant dad– funny and mischievous with a strong protective streak and a good sense of what is right and wrong. Also, he could totally give me fashion advice. I’m not sure how well he’d survive with Amarantha for a wife, but I can only really see it going one of two ways: either Amarantha kills Rhy (sad) like a black widow spider, or Rhy immediately divorces her and runs off with Alucard. They’d then fight her over custody of the children. Trust me to end up on the fictional equivalent of Jeremy Kyle.
Sibling One: The Darkling from Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo
Verdict: Oh my, this is shaping up to be the most dysfunctional family ever. The Darkling would be a charming older brother, since he’d be able to wrap everyone around his little finger and get his own way with everything, and I can see him being pretty protective if anyone tried to upset me. But he’d also be cruel and mercurial and I’d imagine he’d also spend a lot of time stealing all my toys and crushing them underfoot for a laugh.
Sibling Two: Zelie from Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
Verdict: This is a much better choice. Zelie [excuse the lack of accents] would be an awesome sister. She’s strong and determined and she kicks ass. She’s got a bit of a temper, so I wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of her. She also has a lot of responsibility on her shoulders, and I can imagine her being the polar opposite of the Darkling as a sibling.
Cousin: Sarah from Orphan Monster Spy by Matt Killeen
Verdict: Sarah would make a pretty cool cousin. In Orphan Monster Spy she’s always running around spying on people and getting into dangerous situations. She could come up with a bunch of exciting adventures to go on, and she’s really level-headed, so there’s no way she’d crack under parental pressure if we got into trouble for getting stuck in a tree or something.
Boyfriend/Girlfriend: Lazlo Strange from Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
Verdict: My baby! I would totally date Lazlo, although I’m not sure if I’d actually be physically attracted to him or not. He’d still be really sweet and caring though, and we could definitely spend dates swapping books and making up stories and things. I mean, he might not survive meeting my parents or brother, but that’s a chance we’ll have to take.
Best Friend: Nova from Renegades by Marissa Meyer
Verdict: Hmm, I’m not sure about this one. On the one hand, I love her character and I’d quite enjoy being friends with her. On the other, she gets up to some pretty shady stuff in the name of revenge, and I’m just not sure I’d be into that. She’s also very secretive, so she’d probably cancel a load of plans so she could go try and assassinate Captain Chromium.
Pet: Chainsaw from Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater
Verdict: I actually had to go looking for this one, since I had no interest in turning Ronan into a pet [I’d definitely not survive that]. Chainsaw is a pretty cool pet. She’s intelligent and protective and fierce, and she’s a raven for god’s sake, which makes her naturally awesome. If I could get any kind of animal as a pet, and know how to look after it properly, it would definitely be something like an owl or raven so this is an excellent choice for me.
Apart from my terrifying mother and brother, I think this is a pretty great family overall. Fingers crossed Rhy switches Amarantha for Alucard! I’m not really sure who to tag in this, so I’ll tag a few people and then they can totally ignore me, and anyone who wants to join in can consider this a tag for them too:
Oran at The Singing Lights
Kristi at Confessions of a YA Reader
Tiana at The Book Raven
Moon at Moon Light and Dreams
Peachy at Book Dragon Lair
Nikki at Books and Lemon Squash

Haha, I would imagine having the Darkling as a brother would be quite interesting! Loved all the characters in your family!
