RIP It Or Ship It Book Tag

RIP It or Ship It

Hey everyone,

So today I thought I’d bring you one of my favourite BookTube tags, RIP It or Ship It. The original tag was created by Emma’s Books, and since she posts some great stuff you should definitely check her videos out here.

The rules of the game are simple. I’m going to put a lot of fictional characters’ names into a cup and draw them out two at a time. Once I have a pairing, I’ll tell you if I RIP it or if I ship it. There’s going to be names from a variety of YA fantasy novels and series, so hopefully there’ll be some interesting pairings in there.

  1. Holland from A Darker Shade of Magic and Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter

Totally not. I mean, Luna is eccentric and amazing and she’s a great character, so I can’t imagine things would end well if she dated Holland. He’s a bit too vicious for her tastes, I think. Although he could take her on some cute dates to different Londons, which would probably fascinate her.

Verdict: RIP It.

2. Cal from the Red Queen series and Gansey from The Raven Cycle.

Um, nope. Again, I think Gansey deserves a lot better than Cal, considering some of those plot twists in that series that he’s caused. Gansey is intellectual and curious, but he’s also very loyal, and while Cal is quite a serious character, he’s also a bit of an ass.

Verdict: RIP It.

3. Valentine from The Mortal Instruments series and Athos Dane from A Darker Shade of Magic.

I’m actually going to ship these two villains. I mean, they’re both pretty awful people, but it seems like Athos is quite big on torture and Valentine does weird creepy and unethical experiments on different creatures so at least they have some kind of joint hobby?

Verdict: Ship It [I suppose…]

4. Harry Potter from Harry Potter and Adam Parrish from The Raven Cycle.

One hundred percent okay with this. Harry is brave and can be quite outspoken at times, especially when he feels like he’s fighting for a cause. He sticks up for underdogs. Adam is super smart and he’s very self-reliant, so I can see Harry preparing elaborate dates for the two of them to try and persuade Adam to help him with his homework. Also, Harry and Adam are both pretty magical characters, so I’d like to see this pairing take off.

Verdict: Ship It

5. Feyre from A Court of Thorns and Roses and Mia from Nevernight

Again, I can totally see this being a thing of beauty. Feyre can be quite ruthless at times, and she’s also powerful and strong, but she knows where to draw lines. Mia is quite similar. Also, Feyre is part of the Night Court, and Mia is like a walking shadow so I guess they’d have lots of sweet romantic evenings watching the stars together, with Mia reading Feyre books.

Verdict: Ship It

6. Magnus Bane from the Shadowhunter series and Remus Lupin from Harry Potter

Hmm… I’m not sure about this. On the one hand, Magnus seems to like men who are a little introverted and intelligent, and he’d be very understanding of Lupin’s monthly transformations, but then Lupin is definitely the older one here, and he’s probably a bit too shabby chic for Magnus’ tastes. Also, I don’t know how tolerant of glitter Lupin would be.

Verdict: RIP It. Remus probably doesn’t do glitter.

7. Tamlin from A Court of Thorns and Roses and Inej from Six of Crows

Um no, just no. Tamlin is a weak and overprotective monster, and Inej is pure and sweet and deserves so so much better. Inej needs someone independent and loyal, someone who knows to let her do her thing. That person is definitely not Tamlin.

Verdict: Burn it in hell.

What did you all think of the pairings? Do you agree or disagree with my choices? Let me know in the comment section.

Anyone who wants to join in the fun, consider this a tag for you. Write down your names and get selecting!
