Wishlist Wednesday: XOXO by Axie Oh

When is it out?: July 13th (in the UK)   What is it about: Cello prodigy Jenny has one goal: to get into a prestigious music conservatory. When she meets mysterious, handsome Jaewoo in her uncle’s Los Angeles karaoke bar, it’s clear he’s the kind of boy who would uproot her careful plans. But in a moment of spontaneity, she allows him to pull her out of her comfort zone for one unforgettable night of adventure…before he disappears without a word. Three months later, when Jenny and her mother arrive in South Korea to take care of her ailing grandmother, she’s shocked to discover that Jaewoo is a student…

    Loveless Book Review

From Goodreads: It was all sinking in. I’d never had a crush on anyone. No boys, no girls, not a single person I had ever met. What did that mean? Georgia has never been in love, never kissed anyone, never even had a crush – but as a fanfic-obsessed romantic she’s sure she’ll find her person one day. As she starts university with her best friends, Pip and Jason, in a whole new town far from home, Georgia’s ready to find romance, and with her outgoing roommate on her side and a place in the Shakespeare Society, her ‘teenage dream’ is in sight. But when her romance plan wreaks havoc…

Of Princes and Promises Book Review

From Goodreads: Caterina LaValle is determined to show she’s still the queen of St. Rosetta’s Academy. Sure, her crown may be slightly askew after her ex-boyfriend, Alaric, cheated on her, but she’s a LaValle. She’ll find a way to march right back in there, her hands clutching the strings to the whole puppet show. This time, she’s going to be untouchable. Rahul Chopra knows that moment he shared with Caterina LaValle at the winter formal meant something. Surely she feels it, too. He’s a little uncertain how someone like him (socially inept to a point way past “adorkable”) could fit into her world, but he’s loved Caterina for years. He knows…

    May 2021 Haul and Wrap-Up

Hi everyone, hope your weekend is starting well. It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these posts, in part because I’ve been going through some financial restrictions recently (my scholarship is coming to an end this year, and jobs are a bit uncertain in my field, so I’m trying to spend less and save more to cover any months where I’m between incomes). And also space is a little tight, since we live in a two bedroom flat and the shelves are filling up fast! However, since I’ve been teaching recently, I wanted to treat myself to a bunch of books. So, let’s start with the haul of…

    AAPI Month Book Recommendations

Hi everyone, So, it’s almost the end of May, but I didn’t want to let the month just slip away without posting some book recommendations for AAPI month. There have been some amazing releases by Asian American and Pacific Islander authors in recent months, so now is definitely the time to add a few books to those teetering tbrs. AAPI month is a great chance to celebrate the AAPI community. My list includes several new releases, as well as one or two recommendations of books that I’ve read and loved over the past few years. Spin the Dawn and Unravel the Dusk by Elizabeth Lim.   Okay, I’m kind of…

  • To Be Read

    July TBR: 2020

Since we’re now a few days into July, I thought I’d share my To Be Read list for this month. My apartment is slowly getting taken over by books. There’s no room on the shelves, and there are several teetering piles of novels in the bedroom, so I’ve had to put myself on a physical book buying ban until we (hopefully) move in September to (hopefully) somewhere with more space for shelves. I’m still getting monthly boxes from Illumicrate and Fairyloot, and I’ve still treated myself to the special edition Shades of Magic box, but I think, unless there are any other incredibly amazing special edition boxes coming out between…

Recommendations: YA Books by Black Authors

Hey everyone, Hope your Mondays are all going okay. Today, I wanted to take an opportunity to highlight some amazing YA books by Black authors. In light of what’s happening in America and around the world right now, I want to do my best to continue to educate myself on these issues, and to do better in making sure to support Black authors and creators going forwards. In the interests of full disclosure the list of books I’m posting today is going to be split into three parts– books that I’ve read that I’m recommending, books that are currently on my TBR and I will hopefully get to soon, and…

    Sunday Chart

It’s been a loooong time since I last wrote one of these, but I thought I’d take this chance to start up doing a Sunday Chart again, based on my recent reads. I’m hoping, in the next few weeks, to pick back up on the reviews, since I’ve actually been reading a lot recently but just not quite feeling like writing reviews of the books I’ve read. Aurora Burning by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman Dangerous Remedy by Kat Dunn The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare All Boys Aren’t Blue by George M. Johnson The Education of Margot Sanchez by Lilliam Rivera Descendant of the Crane by Joan He Dear Martin by…

And since it’s a new year, I’m wiping the list clean to bring you a whole new list of my favourite recent reads x A Heart So Fierce and Broken by Brigid Kemmerer Serpent and Dove by Shelby Mahurin The Merciless Crow by Margaret Owen If We Were Villains by M.L.
