May Book Box Club: ‘Wizards at War’
May’s Book Box Club box was themed ‘Wizards at War.’ I didn’t manage to guess what the book would be, but I did low-key fall in love with it and I recently snagged a copy of the follow up, Shadowblack on Netgalley to review.
So the main thing in the box was a gift-wrapped copy of the magical Spellslinger by Sebastien de Castell, along with a signed bookplate, Q and A with the author, and as always, an invite to the book box club book group chat.
Alongside this was a Dumbledore pin, created by The Potter Emporium. I really liked this one, and my friends cooed over it A LOT when I wore it out, but except for putting them on badges, I can never find much use for pins. They put holes in clothing, so I tend to admire them and then not use them. But oh well. This one is really gorgeous and he looks so sweet and funny. The next item was a Harry Potter Sorting Hat Bath Bomb by Scent’d. I was blown away by this one, and I couldn’t wait to try it out [I didn’t own a bath at uni, so I had to wait TWO MONTHS to try this out at home.] When I put it in the water it fizzed for ages and gradually turned the bath yellow. Which made it look as though I’d had an unfortunate accident, but it smelled heavenly soooooo. I also found a badger charm in the centre, which I thought was a really nice touch. I’d definitely be up for buying more of these in the future.
In addition to these two items, I also got a Gandalficorn notebook by Neon Magpie. This had a Gandalf Unicorn [yes, you heard right] on the cover, with the phrase: You Shall Not Pass above it. It actually proved very useful. I was running late for a creative writing critique session on the day my box came, so I nabbed the notebook and ran with it to the cafe to take notes 😀 As well as this, we got two exclusive wizard pencils designed by Book Box Club. One read: After all this time? Always. And the other said: Unashamedly bookish. These are very practical, and I do love filling the jar on my desk with bookish pencils. But my favourite item this month was the Darker Shade of Magic print by Sip and Read. I love, love, LOVE me some ADSOM, and this art print just looks amazing on my uni wall. It’s a Lila Bard quote: I’d rather die on an adventure than live standing still’ and it’s just wonderful!
There were also some bookish merch things included in the box, courtesy of several publishing companies. This month included four cards featuring artwork for Spellslinger, which I thought was a nice addition to the box. As well as all this, I happened to win one of ten exclusive extra goodies from book box club. This turned out to be a wizard’s wand, and it was so beautiful. I really loved it, but my little sister [who is a huge fan of the Harry Potter movies] lost her wand while we were visiting the Leavesden studio tour a few years back, so I thought she would appreciate this more than me. And she does– every time the movies come on tv she picks it up to ‘swish and flick’ at the screen.
As ever, if you fancy trying out Book Box Club, or just want to read more about them, you can check them out here.
Next month’s box is Schoolroom Scandals 😀
