June Fairyloot: ‘Elementalists’
This was my first Fairyloot box. I had been wanting to try one for a while, but alas, finances, so I decided to wait for a big occasion. In June I finally handed in my undergraduate dissertation, so I decided that I deserved some Fairyloot in my life.
And oh my. What a beautiful box. I didn’t actually manage to take an unboxing picture, I was so immersed in tearing paper and cooing over items, so I’m afraid this will have to do, but eek. So many items. Such pretty.
Again, I managed to predict a book [mostly with some snooping on goodreads lists] but I was correct, this box did indeed come with a copy of Roar by Cora Carmack. The box included an author letter, interview page, and signed bookplate, and I can honestly say that I really loved this book. It got yet another one of my coveted five star ratings on goodreads, and I’m already foaming at the mouth because I have to wait sooooo long for book two [it’s a normal length of time, actually, but still WHY ALL THE WAITING?]
In addition to this, the box came with a Stormheart candle created by Witchwood Remedies. I got a Twister one [there were several different ones going around, and I picked up a Fire themed one at YALC which was not a scent I liked much]. I was a bit confused by this candle, since it is beautifully decorated with bits of stone and herbs on the top, but for a while I was all like: can I actually light this? Is it safe? Of course it was, and it does smell quite nice, but it maybe isn’t my favourite candle to burn.
Included in the box were also some cute potion bottle sticky notes created by the Fairyloot team. I like these, even if they’re a bit small to write on, and I’m waiting especially for some cool, creative task to hit my brain which will incorporate these nicely. There are three different colour bottles, and they’re just so pretty :O I also got a lip balm from one of my favourite bookish merch stores, Geeky Clean. Her items are so cool, and I loved my vanilla based airbender lip balm. I picked up a bunch of her stuff at YALC this year, and she’s such a wonderful person, so I was super-happy to find one of her items in this box 😀
I also got a Hamsa Hand bracelet by In The Moment. I’ve worn it quite a lot, actually, and I like that it’s a cute little bracelet that goes with a lot of things. I’m very into unique jewellery pieces, so this was a welcome addition to my jewellery box.
Perhaps my favourite two items in this box were the exclusive Clairvoyance soap by Ascent Bath and Body, and the pillowcase by Miss Phi [more on this in a mo]. The soap smells divine, and me and my housemate [who also bought the June box] spent about half an hour commenting on how amazing it smells. It’s hard to describe really, except it just smells…amazing. Haha. I think it has charcoal in it, it does smell quite natural. I’ve used it quite a lot, but I’m scared to finish off the bar now so I’m just keeping it for special occasions. Ahh well.
But yes, let’s move on to that pillowcase. I fell in love with it instantly. It was just so blue and pretty and the quote is a Stephen King quote: ‘Books are a uniquely portable magic.’ I couldn’t stop smiling when I saw this in the box, since it seemed like a bizarre sign of fate. My dissertation, which I had just handed in two or three days before the box arrived, happened to be an analysis of the role of author-protagonists in Stephen King’s metafictional texts. Which meant that a SK themed cushion cover was the ultimate self-gift I could have given myself. It’s a really sweet reminder of the reason I bought the box, and I still smile a bit when I see it on my bed.
