July Book Box Club: Spells and Remedies
July’s Book Box Club theme was ‘Spells and Remedies.’ I furrowed my brow for quite a while trying to figure out what the book could be, and I didn’t actually guess it, but I thought the premise of The Disappearances by Emily Bain Murphy sounded quite nice, and I liked the idea that it included lots of book quotes in the plot. Alongside the book, I also got a signed bookplate, Q and A pages from the author, and an invite to the unashamedly bookish Book Box Club book group.
This box had a lot of cute merch in it. The first thing I saw was the Exclusive Raven Boys soap by Just Fribble. Disclaimer: I may or may not have screamed at this. As you may know, The Raven Cycle is my favourite YA series EVER, and I know the girls at Book Box Club share my enthusiasm [and love of Gansey, although I still insist that he is my book boyfriend]. There were two different soaps, but I got the Cabeswater one. It doesn’t have much of a smell, but there is a faint trace of earthy scents, so I have enjoyed using the soap all the same.
Next came the gorgeous botanical Shakespeare bookmark, designed by Holly Grace Illustration. I thought the quote was really beautiful, and it definitely fits with the book, since Shakespeare is a major plot element in TD. This bookmark is so pretty, and I’ve used it many a time since, so I very much appreciated its inclusion in the box.
The next thing I came across was a bookish tea by The Bluebird Tea Company. This was a Hocus Focus tea, and included ginseng, ginger and a few other things. I’m not much of a tea fan [well, I am, but I’m boring and tend to stick to black teas] so I tried a cup of this and ended up giving it to my tea-enthusiast friend. The taste was very energizing, but it just wasn’t for me. Still, I liked its inclusion in the box, and I’m more than happy to receive teas in the future.
The next item was designed by one of the original Book Box Club members, Moon Kestrel. This was a gorgeous little mirror, with a girl reading on the back of it. The packaging had my name on it, which I thought was very cute, and the mirror design itself is just so stunning. I liked that one of my friends had made it too, it felt like it was extra special because of that. Plus, again, it was very relevant to the plot of the book, where certain things [such as reflections] go missing.
My favourite item in the box was the spells and remedies bunting by The Literary Omnistore. This was created exclusively for the box, and the stars on some of the triangles actually glow in the dark, which is awesome and nerdy and I’m in love with it. I was going to keep this for my shelf at home, but I ended up taking it to university too. I just couldn’t resist 😀
